About This Scale

The Blues scale adds one chromatic note — the ♭5 (also called the "blue note") — to the Minor Pentatonic. This single addition transforms the scale, giving it that distinctive bluesy tension and release. The blue note is typically used as a passing tone, bent into from the 4th or slid down from the 5th. B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Clapton all built their legendary sounds around this scale.
