Mixolydian mode is the 5th mode of the Major scale. It's a Major scale with a flattened 7th (♭7), giving it a slightly bluesy, "unresolved" quality. This is the dominant scale — the scale played over dominant 7th chords. It's the backbone of classic rock (AC/DC, Rolling Stones), Southern rock (Lynyrd Skynyrd), and blues-rock. The Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia was a master of Mixolydian improvisation.
